Chi Ki (United Kingdom)

Chi Ki worked at Skye Niseko in the concierge team for the Winter 2022/23 Season. Let's find out more about her role, and time in Niseko.

What's your favourite thing to do in Niseko?

Where do I start? There's so much to do here in winter! As an avid snowboarder, I was thrilled to experience the world-renowned powder snow that Niseko is famous for but also explore much more that Hokkaido had to offer as well.

Some of my favourite off-slope activities were snowmobiling, onsen hopping, seeing large snow sculptures at the Sapporo Ice Festival with some of my work and flat mates from the season and also roadtripping around Hokkaido to check out the national parks and Lake Toya.

The nature around Niseko is truly amazing! I loved the fact that I could also use my All Mountain lift pass, which was offered at a discounted rate through HTM, to access other resorts such as Niseko Village and Annupuri if Hirafu or Hanazono got a bit busy during the peak periods!

Another highlight was watching the Baseball for the first time and seeing the Hokkaido Fighters win at the brand new stadium in Sapporo and also going to see the cherry blossom sakuras blossom at the end of the season.

What do you like best about your role?

I loved working with my fellow team members from all over the world! Everyone is so friendly and I had the most amazing boss who was always so understanding. No task or challenge was ever too hard with the support of my managers at Skye!

I also loved the variety of tasks in Concierge, not one day was the same. The fact that I could make guests happy with my efforts made my job so rewarding.

Celebrating with everyone at the end of the season and reflecting on everything we'd experienced together was really special. We often went out for meals and drinks all together, I loved all the Japanese izakayas and the delicious Japanese cuisine they offered!

What is one piece of advice you would give to people wanting to come to Niseko?

Make the most of your time here! If you are worried about making friends in a country that doesn't speak your native language, don't worry as Niseko is such an international and diverse place that you won't struggle at all!
