Staff Stories
Lauren arrived in Japan with her boyfriend, George, after completing her first ski season in Avoriaz. As part of the 2024/25 winter seasonal team, she was an incredible asset, bringing an upbeat personality and a naturally positive spirit to YamaSport’s Landmark store. Her energy and enthusiasm helped her thrive in the fast-paced, dynamic environment, making a lasting impact on both guests and teammates. She will be truly missed!
Having been drawn to Japan for the famous powder it wouldn’t be right to say anything other than skiing! You really can’t beat a blue bird powder day on the mountain. But my favourite part honestly? Breaking for lunch after a morning of skiing and enjoying a big bowl of ramen at Boyoso- chef's kiss!
The team has to be the best part about working at YamaSport. It’s a really social place to work and there’s always someone to join on the mountain or head for a drink with.
We also have a great perk at Yama having access to the rental equipment; it’s a great opportunity to try out different types of skis/boards to see what you might like to ride or be able to help guests with recommendations, or to just give the other discipline a go for your own enjoyment!
Ski as much as you can but also take time for some R&R. It’s easy to feel the pressure to ski every day but don’t burn yourself out. There’s other nice things to do in town to get out the house, go to an onsen, explore food trucks, play pool at Bills or try out the climbing wall at NAC. Also, don’t skip out on heading to Kutchan for some more affordable options for dinners and lunches out of Hirafu!
